Upcoming exhibitions at the Orsay Museum
We would like to take a moment to introduce you to the Musée d'Orsay, a superb museum devoted to the Impressionists and famed throughout the world. Each of its exhibitions is an event and the next three certainly promise to live up to this establishment’s fine reputation. Discover them during your stay at the Hotel Monte Cristo!
Current and upcoming Orsay Museum exhibitions; unexpected and ambitious
In the vast spaces beneath the curvaceous glass roof of the old Orsay railway station, with its architecture typical of the second half of the 19th century, the Musée d'Orsay hosts famous works and exhibitions devoted to key artists.
Currently, the museum is presenting the first exhibition to focus on the French novelist Joris-Karl Huysmans in his role as an art critic. A fascinating look at the writer’s vision of modernism in art and his perception of the evolution of creation at a significant point in its history.
Léopold Chauveau and James Tissot
These two upcoming exhibitions are dedicated to two very different artists. James Tissot, a student of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and a major artist of the late 19th century, embodied the turning point of modernity in art. This exhibition examines the main themes of his creativity, the cycles and explorations that fuelled his artistic reflection.
In contrast, the late 19th/early 20th century sculptor, illustrator and author Léopold Chauveau was self-taught and is less well known, having worked outside the established circles of this time. From his singular vision were born the charming and mysterious monsters that we find in his statuary and in his book illustrations for adults and children. The upcoming exhibition provides fresh insight into the work of an unjustly overlooked creator.
The Musée d'Orsay has some wonderful surprises and intense experiences in store for us this spring with these three very special exhibitions.
